Date A Live Review

UntitledDate A Live first began airing in March of 2013, wrapping up in June of the same year. The story goes as follows, the world is played by the all too common palace natural disaster known as Spacequakes, An impossibly large explosion capable of obliterating millions of people in mear seconds. Shido Itsuka, a second-year high schooler living with his younger sister, is caught in one of these Spacequakes whilst attempting to save his sister. However, rather than dying Shido awakes to discover a strange young lady clad in a bazaar attire. As it turns out, this girl is actually a spirit, a mystical being from another world. It doesn’t take long for the Anit-Spirit strike team to arrive and begin the operation to exterminate the spirit. Rather than fight however, Shido discover a more peaceful method of neutralising the spirits, by making them fall in love.

My Review: I’ve got to say, this show is actually really great. It’s got just the right amount of ridiculousness and seriousness to keep the show engaging and entertaining, whilst still feeling like the story carries some weight. I also thought that the concept of a Spacequake was pretty cool and terrifying at the same time. All of the characters are really great and I found them all quite interesting, most o them haveing interesting backgrounds. The fights are pretty great and never failed to make me smile with its full throttle action. The soundtrack was pretty good, with a stellar opening track, really top notch. The art style if very vivid and works well to make the world feel alive, particularly how each of the main girls has a colour associated with them (mainly in the outfits).

I rate this anime 3.5/5.
