Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale is the first feature movie for the SAO series. Released on the 18th of February 2017, Ordinal scale follows the events that take place sometime after the SAO incident four years prior. A new piece of technology has hit the market called the Augma, unlike the nerve gear the Augma immerses the user in augmented reality which is said to be far safer than the previous technology. The game Ordinal Scale is a hit on the system with many of Kazuto’s friends getting in on the action, however, it would appear that there is something else in the works of Ordinal Scale.
My Review: I was very excited when I first heard about Ordinal Scale, and although it took me quite some time to actually get around to watching it I’d say it was worth the wait. Ordinal Scale actually surprised me in one aspect, I was expecting Kazuto to be super into the whole AR thing, finding out he was mostly against it made for quite an interesting character trait. Despite it being that case that he just didn’t want to do much running, it was still good to see him have to actually try to improve his skills, rather than being super OP from the start.
One area I think the move actually excelled at was in its sound design. There was just so much power and “Boom” in all of the sound effects that it made all the action scenes really exciting, especially when one of the bosses shoots of a big attack or dies.
The story of Ordinal Scale wasn’t terrible, however, I did think fell like we spent too much time getting to the ending fight, and then having it just be over in a few seconds especially considering the grandeur and importance of the boss they had to fight. I just thought it was a bit of wasted potential.
All in all though Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale was a fun time and worth the watch to any fan of the series.

Baccano! is a 13 episode series that ran between July 27th and November 2nd of 2007. The majority of the series follows the events that transpire on one particular journey of the Flying Pussyfoot, a luxury train line. All of this started back when a group of alchemists were given the knowledge of the elixir of immortality but after becoming immortals decided it would be best if the elixir was destroyed. Many years later in the 1930s, one of the alchemists has recreated the elixir however it is lost and ends up being mistaken for alcohol by a fair few residents. Who all fancy a drink, but pass it up because of it isn’t actually booze. The now unknowing group of immortals, consisting of eccentric thieves and several Mafia families will be pitted against each other, each attempting to fulfil their own selfish goals, all while stuck aboard the Flying Pussyfoot.
Gamers! had its short first run between the 13th of July and 28th of September of 2017. The main plot begins with Keita Amano, a high school student who wants to do nothing more than spending his time playing games. All seems well for Keita until he one day happens upon a chance encounter with Karen Tendou, the schools resident cute girl and idol. As it turns out Tendou is the head of the schools game club and after chatting to Keita about games, she invites him to join the club. And so naturally, he refuses … claiming that the clubs goals are too different from what he wats from gaming, This sends Tendou into a spiral of outrage and confusion vowing to recruit Keita. Meanwhile, Tasuku Uehara and his girlfriend Aguri are living life the way they want too, unaware of the social turbulence they are about to be pulled into.
Yona of the Dawn first aired on October 7th, 2014 and concluded on the 24th of March, 2015. The story follows Yona, a young princess living a life of luxury and lavishment, completely sheltered away from her kingdom. During the lead up to a celebration, Yona’s cousin Su-won visite the castle with evil intentions. While the smitten Yona fauns over Su-won, he betrays her trust by murdering the current king, Yona’s father. Su-won then proceeds to annexe the castle forcing Yona to flee with her personal bodyguard Son Hak, A man dubbed the Lightning Beast for his ferocity and speed in battle. Now believed dead Yona if forced to grow up and face the world that she has been locked away from all these years. If she is ever to regain control of the crown she will need to hunt down and recruit the aid of the four dragons warriors, each who are sworn loyal to the crimson dragon.
My review: Yona of the Dawn had a very strong start. I liked the whole idea of going on a quest to find four people and forming a band of rebels. But when we got to episode 24 of 24 and still only had three of the four dragon warriors, I knew that this series was dead in the water. Which is really a shame considering the promise it showed at the start and considering where we are now I highly doubt there will be a continuation. One thing I will say is that there are quite a few striking similarities between Yona of the Dawn and Nickelodeon’s Avatar. A show that was overall mediocre with some decent moments, Yona of the Dawn is not something that I would recommend to the average anime viewer. However, if you have a personal interest in feudal Japan mythology and warfare then I would absolutely recommend this show.
