Bloody Monday: Volume 3 Review

BMV3Bloody Monday is a series written by  Ryumon Ryou and was illustrated by Megumi Kouji. The third volume was published on 20th of December 2011. This volume features the next nine chapters (15-23). You can read my review of the second volume here. This volume begins with Fujimaru and Otoya going to pay Ms. Orihara (Maya) a visit. She had previously dismissed Fujimaru’s suspicion of her involvement with “the Christmas Massacre”, However, Otaya provides a piece of information that leaves Ms. Orihara’s alibi in shambles. When their plan to secure evidence of her crime goes awry, Fujimaru will need to think on his feet to keep inconspicuous or risk becoming another one of Ms. Orihara’s victims. While all this is occurring, more of the terrorist organisation start to crawl out of the woodworks as Fujimaru draws a connection between his current predicament and his actions in the events two years prior.

018My Review: Volume 3 of Bloody Monday was far more interesting than the last two volumes. The partition of the book where Fujimaru and Maya are trying to sus each other out was pretty entertaining, it really reminded me of Deathnote if not a bit sillier. The rest of the volume is mostly dedicated to an action event that involved Fujimaru using his super hacker powers is a somewhat entirely unbelievable manner. My suspension of belief just can’t allow me to accept that Fujimaru is able to hack into the building and control the light, speakers and what not. I may be wrong but I have a feeling that that’s not how buildings work. Still, it was entertaining and had enough interesting action to keep it fresh and exciting. The rest of the volume consists of an introduction to the new villain characters who seem to be rather one-note, I guess we’ll need to wait and see.

I rate this manga 6.5/10.

Thanks for reading!

What I’ve Been Watching: #4

Hay everyone one, another week goes by and I’ve been busy watch and reading anime stuff.

Firstly, If you’ve been reading my reviews then you would know that I have just started reading the Bloody Monday series. So far I have read Volumes 1,2 and 3 and has started volume 4. It’s pretty good so far.

Nextly, I’ve finished watching Angel Beats! and the “Stairway to Heaven” OVA. The series wasn’t too bad, but I thought the OVA was a bit average.

After that, I watched all of Tsuredure Children. It was pretty fun, but I think the spontaneous nature of the show may have been a bit overbearing.

Now I am making my way through Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor. All I’ll say is that there are hints of brilliance, just hints though. It is still pretty good regardless.

Bloody Monday: Volume 2 Review

271753-_sx1280_ql80_ttd_Bloody Monday is a series written by  Ryumon Ryou and was illustrated by Megumi Kouji. The second volume was published on 25th of October 2011. This volume features the next eight chapters (06-14). You can read my review of the first volume here. After decoding and analysing the “Christmas Massacre” video, Fujimaru discovers a woman in the background, a woman who looks almost identical to Ms. Orihara. Finding this awfully suspicious Fujimaru begins to investigate his teacher to determine if she had any involvement with the video. However, Ms. Orihara (Maya) has ensured a sound alibi. Once again, free from suspicion Ms. Orihara continues to pursue “Bloody Monday”. Fujimaru doesn’t have much time to rest easy as Haruka, his younger sister, get kidnapped. In order to get her back, Fujimaru must conform to his enemies demands by using his super genius hacking skills.

My Review: Bloody Monday: Volume 2 pack a lot more into it than the previous volume, the story has picked up its pace as the pieces start falling into place. This volume has almost double the hacking tropes as the last one, complete with its own “Zoom, Enhance” moment, which I couldn’t help roll my eyes at. I do have to say, there is a strong tension during the time where Haruka is kidnapped, the book becomes a frantic page-turner that delivers a big adrenaline rush that doesn’t let up until the end. Needless to say, it was pretty good. The plot so far hasn’t been too bad, although, I do think that it feels a bit shallow or superficial. Other than that, I’m liking the series so far and I intend to continue my reviews.

I rate this manga 6/10.

Thanks for reading!

Bloody Monday: Volume 1 Review

kd181960Bloody Monday is a series written by  Ryumon Ryou and was illustrated by Megumi Kouji. The first volume was published on 23st of August 2011. This volume features the first five chapters (01-05). The story of Bloody Monday follows a high schooler by the name of Takagi Fujimaru, but despite his ordinary exterior, Fujimaru is actually a genius hacker. Under the mantle of “Falcon”, Fujimaru uses his skills to fight for what he thinks is right, while also working part-time helping this fathers company, (which just so happens to be a secret spy agency called Third-I). However, Fujimaru’s world is flipped upside down when his father is framed for murder. Now he must use his hacking talent to protect his sister and cleat his father’s name, but it seems that his whole family is now part of something bigger.

My Review: Once upon a time, I read the first chapter of this series but I had different tastes at the time, so I really didn’t have much interest. Now I have just stumbled upon a good portion of the series at my local library, so I picked them up to give it a bit of a read. Volume 1 is a fairly decent introduction, we get to meed all the character as well and understand some of the points of interest, which is all fairly standard fare. Towards the end of the volume is where the plot starts to pick up and we start to see momentum building. The issue I have is that there is a short sub-plot at the start (which may or may not pay off later) and as such, it takes a bit longer for the ball to get rolling. My other issue is the books use of computer terms, it just comes across as schlock, but if you ignore it then there not much issue. I’m enjoying the series so far and I look forward to reading more.

I rate this manga 5.5/10.

Platinum End: Volume 3 Review

9781421592084_manga-platinum-end-3-primaryPlatinum End volume 3 was written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. This volume was published on 1st of August, 2017. This volume features the third three chapters (07-09), read my review for the second volume here. After the massacre at the stadium Mirai and Saki begin to formulate a plan when, all of a sudden, another God candidate comes knocking upon their window. He introduces himself as Mukaido Nanato, a clothing producer. He suggests that the strangers unite under the common goal of putting an end to metro policeman’s brutality. However, the clock is ticking as metro policeman continues to hunt down the other God candidates via any means possible, including releasing a deranged serial killer into the masses. After the first murder, the ad-hoc alliance must rush to find “Girl A” before she kills again.

My Review: Volume three introduces a new character who brings an interesting dynamic to the table, Mukaido‘s mature perspective offers greater insight and guidance to Mirai and Saki, allowing for more intelligent group decision making, as well as more effective strategising.

Mirai’s suit

We also get our first glimpse of Mirai‘s battle suit which is a stylish motocross-magician mix? Either way, it looks pretty neat. The other character introduced is Girl A the deranged serial killer who suffers from the same issue as many of the other supporting characters, that being underdevelopment. Still, I had fun with this volume and the slower pace worked well for introducing the new strategical elements to the story, which I fell is what shines in this particular type of plot. I’m very happy with the volume and I anticipate the official release of the next volume in December.

I rate this manga 6.5/10.
