Anime of the Year Awards (2017)

I don’t normally follow all the new animes as they are released so I haven’t seen a tremendous amount of shows from this year, but I’ve seen some so that’s good enough right. As such I will be starting the Anime Accord’s annual Anime of the Year awards.
Before we get to the main award winner I’d just like to name a few other shows that I really liked.

Honourable mentions:

UntitledKonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! 2
A wonderful continuation of the KonoSuba series. I loved this whole series and season 2 was no disappointment. KonoSuba is full of fun moments and never gets too serious or heavy, making it the perfect easy watch.

Eromanga Sensei
A show with a risky premise that made quite a splash in the community. With a less than positive favorability. Love it or hate it Eromanga Sensei was a show that packs in the laughs and never lost my interest.

Dragon maidMiss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid

A weird show with a weird concept, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid sees Miss Kobayashi learning how to coexist with her new live-in maid. It just so happens to be that her new maid is actually a dragon. What ensues is a budding comedy that shows how each person  (and dragon) can learn something from one another.

And there we have it, the first annual Anime of the Year awards. We’ve had a lot of good shows this year and I look forward to seeing whats in store for us next year.

Thanks for reading!

What I’ve Been Watching: #6

Sorry this post is late, I got a little sidetracked yesterday. It’s been a slower week for me, only watched a few series.

I started off the week with Himouto! Umaru-chan. A quirky show with decent but forgettable characters and no real plot to speak of, Mainly just a combination of “events”. Just easy watching stuff really, it did remind me of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid a little bit.

Moving on from that I watched Maken-Ki! a very “meh” show. Some funny moments but nothing memorable. I wouldn’t bother watching it.

I finished the week watching Gamers! When I first started watching it I absolutely hated it, but I stuck with it and actually started to enjoy the show. The only issue is that none of the problems would have happened if any of the characters bother to talk to each other. It is kinda ridiculous.

Also in Manga Land, I dusted off the rest of Bloody Monday. Quite a few good twists towards the end.

Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid Review

Dragon maid

Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid made quite the little impression on the general public with its release in early 2017. The story centres around Miss Kobayashi, a nine to five office worker, whose life is heading nowhere in particular. That is until one day when upon opening her front door on her way to work, she is greeted by quite the unexpected and terrifying sight. Directly in front of her sits the head of a big, green and mean looking dragon with horns and everything. Then in another shocking revelation, the dragon transforms into an excitable young girl in a maid outfit. She introduces herself as Tooru and explains that she has come here to work as a maid for Miss Kobayashi. Thus begins a new life for Kobayashi, a life of maids, dragons and other worldly problems.

My Review: Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid is a very fun show. From the moment you pick it up, you can expect a constant stream of hilarity and nonsensical drama. All of the characters are entirely lovable and will leave a big impression in your heart. The comedy of the show is of a very slapstick nature, that is to say, don’t expect subtle critiques of worldly issues. However, it is quite likely that you have come across some upload of a scene or two from the show and quite likely either the opening or ending songs. Reason being that all of it is remarkably charming, to the point of being impossible not to crack a smile the entire time you’re watching. So if you a fan of anything similar than prepare to have your face muscles burn from all the smiling you’ll be doing. this show is just a really simple to show that is perfect for some dumb laughs with a few friends.

I rate this anime 7/10.
