Top 10: Cool Swords in Anime

Welcome to our monthly Top 10 anime list.
This month I am going to be looking at some cool and unique swords in anime.  This list isn’t in any particular order I’ve just numbered it for simplicity.

10. Kurikara

A powerful demon slaying sword, Kurikara is said to have had a demon fused inside of it. The sword was originally forged to fend off evil spirits, but later it ended up in the hands of Rin Okumura, the son of Satan. The sword is important to Rin as it holds back his innate demonic power.

A traditional looking nodachi, Archenemy, AKA “The Sword of Resentment” is a weapon so fearsome that it is believed that just unsheathing it could cause uncontrollable destruction of a devastating proportion and thus the holder must vow never to break the seal. Kagura Mikazuchi, the sword’s wielder, is able to use Archenemy to defeat her opponents without even unsheathing it. However, she broke her vow during her fight against Erza in the Grand Wizard Games.

The Seven Deadly Sins: Signs of Holy War Review

Untitled.jpgThe Seven Deadly Sins: Signs of Holy War is a four episode mini-series that aired between Augst 28th and September 18th of 2016. Each one of the episodes is a different event that occurs after the end of the first season. The first is a what you would expect from an OVA, the miniature pig – Hawk – escapes and the whole cast have a race to find him. The second episode is the epic fight between Meliodas and Ban that we were promised in the last season. Episode three is a funny and charming view of Diane and King’s “romance”. And the final episode revolves around a great deal of mystery, aimed at setting up the second season of the show.

My Review: Consider when I first pick this up I was expecting the second season of Seven Deadly Sins, I was a little disheartened to find out that that, in fact, was not the case. Regardless of that fact, these episodes to offer nice little episodic bites of fun with the characters of the show, my personal favourite episodes (episode two and four) are much more like the original series. On top of that, episode four does a really great job of psyching me up for the next season. We get to see some really awesome looking demons and just what we could expect from an actual Holy War. I think this add on perfectly to the end of the first season, but it may be a little harder to jump right back into the series if you haven’t seen the first season in a while.

I rate this anime 6/10.

The Armoury: Ban’s three section staff

Initially, Ban wielded his sacred treasure Courechouse; his sacred treasure. However, after having it stolen during his imprisonment, since then he has had to replace it with a three section staff. The weapon is made of three lengths of metal rod, connected by a chain. Ban is considerably skilled with the weapon being able to use it to grab objects from a great distance and rip the heart out of demons.

The Armoury: Dragon Handle

Originally part of the Coffin of Eternal Darkness, the dragon handle holds the key to reviving the demon clan. Due to unknown circumstances, Meliodas acquired the sword and has since never let go of it. The hilt appears as a broken sword with a green dragon as the handle. While effectively just being a broken sword, when used in conjunction with Meliodas’ “Full Counter” ability, it becomes a powerful weapon capable of besting even the strongest enemy.

The Seven Deadly Sins Review

7taizai_01_cs1w1_899x1280The Seven Deadly Sins was first aired during October 2014 to March 2015. The story is set in Britannia, in a world filled with magic and mystery. The land is protected by the immensely powerful Holy Knights. A tale tells of a time when a small band of Holy Knights decided to betray the kingdom and to attempt to overthrow the king.  They were supposedly vanquished by the other Holy Knights, however, the legend states that these mighty warriors, hailed “The Seven Deadly Sins” still live and are waiting their chance to rise again. Ten years later the current Holy Knights decide to stage their very own coup. Thus begins the quest of Elizabeth, the third daughter of the crown, and her search to reform The Seven Deadly Sins in order to reclaim the kingdom and free the oppressed citizens of Kingdom of Liones.

My Review: This show it’s really endearing, all of the characters are incredibly lovable so it’s hard to pick a favorite. The animation is fairly standard but I did really like the bold colors and simplistic design of the characters, along with the somewhat intricate details of the backgrounds. The plot isn’t too bad, although I do have to say that there is a lot of filler, nothing too boring but I would have liked to see more progression in the main story. I could see that the writers were trying to create tension during many of the moments but there was never a moment where I felt particularly affected by it, mainly due to the show’s track record of everything working out, no matter what. All in all, I’d say The Seven Deadly Sins is well worth the watch.

I rate this anime 3.5/5.
