Kokoro Connect Review

1464164938_posterKokoro Connect first aired during 2012. The focus of this anime is centered around five high school students: Taichi, Iori, Himeko, Yoshifumi, and Yui. These five friends are all the soul members of the Student Cultural Research Club and believe that they are the best of friends who know everything about each other. One day, the group begin to experience a strange series of anomalies. The group begins to randomly swap bodies between one another. As this phenomenon continues the group of friends starts to realize that what they thought they knew about one another may be quite far from the truth. It soon comes to light that for one reason or another a mysterious being called “heartseed” is the mastermind behind the phenomena. As the group tries to survive the ensuing events, their friendship will be tested and their relationships may change forever.

My Review: I am a huge fan of strong, emotionally drive stories. So it may come as no surprise to you to know that I really, really enjoyed Kokoro Connect. Every single phenomenon throws a spanner in the emotional cogs of the group. Each one aims to tear down a wall, and the group must try as hard as possible to rebuild that wall. As the story progresses you can clearly see how the damage of the last event is built upon by the next and that what was once a happy group of best friends was actually nothing but lies. The show itself is not very long but it does an excellent job of conveying the story, every episode felt very “packed”, that is to say, no episode felt like it was wasted or used as a filler. It was also very entertaining to see how not only did the characters not truly know their friends but that they didn’t even understand themselves fully.

I rate this anime 3.5/5.
